Hey Nick, congrats and thanks on the 50th Sacred Headwaters. I can't believe the amount of work you put in there. Great work, extremely interesting from the start. You covered such a broad range of subjects and dived deep into social and economics issues that are imo the real cause of climate change and is often avoid by more mainstream climate groups. Great work. And by the way, what are we gonna do without you in Squamish?
Thanks Dan! Let me know if you're ever up north for some paddling or riding. And -- I'm not sure, hahah. I'm sure other folks will crop up who are willing to yell at commuters with a megaphone while blocking the highway.
How is it that a country's carbon emissions don't include that of its military? This is definitely a form of green-washing by using commodities like EVs to the population while belching carbon from the war machines.
There are a ton of loopholes like that though the military one is obviously massive. National forest carbon accounting has some huge gaps too (and it's structured in a way that encourages things like liquidating BC's old growth to ship to the UK and burn in a biomass plant). Basically every step forward that's taken (like requiring emissions accounting to accompany target setting, which certainly seems like a good thing) is accompanied by a concerted effort to ensure that the measure doesn't actually cause anything to change.

They're sort of supposed to be reported. But a lot of countries just don't report or very significantly underestimate. Not an issue I know a ton about but this seems like a pretty good investigation of it (https://ceobs.org/the-military-emissions-gap-what-militaries-arent-reporting-to-the-unfccc/).
